Plom is an enthusiastic, kind and optimistic paper creature who is 8 years old. He loves going on adventures, trying new things and creating his own fun – in fact, it is often Plom that comes up with new ideas, games and adventures. Although not always the most logical, Plom’s enthusiasm for life makes him the natural leader of the group. His passion for adventure is infectious. He is always seeing the best in every situation and is not easily deterred.

Zip is 6 years old and Plom’s faithful companion. Zip looks-up to Plom and feels that Plom gives him support and confidence. In short, Plom and Zip are best friends (despite their age difference, they naturally click). Zip is the shyest member of the group and the least confident. However, he feels very safe within his group of friends and trusts them all completely. Zip can be a little awkward, nervous and he tends to over-think... A lot. This over-thinking leads to his worrying nature. Zip likes to ask questions and find out the answers. He doesn’t deal well with surprises or the unpredictable. Zip likes to think things through and be organised. Zip often doesn’t speak his mind and needs encouragement to say how he feels.

Phoebe is the brains of the group. She is really good at working out a solution to the problems they face day to day, and takes everything in her stride. She rarely panics. Phoebe is down-to-earth, articulate for 7 years old, and very organised. She is like the big sister of the group and always thinks before acting. Due to her intelligence, Phoebe is dry, quick-witted and can sometimes be too honest. She can lose patience with her friends, as she understands things quicker. But she soon realises that she needs to give her friends time to learn, and she loves to help others.

Despite her small stature and cute, high-pitched voice, Mae-Mae is the bravest one of the group. At 6 years old, she is always the first to get stuck into a new adventure. She is feisty, super-confident and loud. Mae-Mae is full of ideas, but doesn’t always listen to others or take advice easily. Mae-Mae embraces life at a million miles per hour and can be a little dramatic and OTT at times... in a very comical way! Mae-Mae is highly creative and loves anything that is bright and sparkling.

Hooper is Phoebe’s younger brother and is 5 years old. Hooper has a slight sibling rivalry with Phoebe because his older sister is regarded as the intelligent one and the one with ideas. In fact, Hooper is also intelligent, but due to his quirky nature, his ideas often come from left field. Hooper is a highly positive character that doesn’t judge and is rarely negative. He is accepting of others and has a sense of wonderment about him. Due to his illogical logic, Hooper is unpredictable and completely unflappable. To Hooper, everything is an adventure. Hooper also has a tendency to be a bit cheeky, which is a great source of comedy in the show.

Fly is like a flying dog. She is completely loyal to Hooper, and will do as Hooper asks. However, Fly is driven by curiosity and instinct, and is easily distracted. If you ask Fly to deliver something, be aware that it may not get there!

Helping Hand is a human hand who is called upon by the characters in Pop Paper City to help them build something crafty which will help them on their adventure. Helping Hand also breaks the fourth wall and can speak directly to the audience at home. Helping Hand is caring, understanding and very knowledgeable, and often helps the characters do things they can’t do on their own, like using scissors. Whilst Helping Hand is the guardian to the characters and the show, he can also be humorous and playful. He isn’t stern or a rule-setter. He allows the characters to make their own decisions and mistakes and learn from them. He is simply there to support and guide when needed, and keep a watchful eye on everyone.
